Based on water temperature, springs can be classified as hot springs, warm springs, and cold springs. Beitou's springs are warm springs with temperatures between 37-40°C and a pH of 2.5-6.5 (acidic), categorized into White Sulfur, Green Sulfur, and Iron Sulfur.

White Sulfur is a mildly acidic sulfate spring, effective for chronic skin conditions, arthritis, and gynecological issues. It is primarily found in the Xingyi Road and Hushan Village areas.

Green Sulfur is an acidic green vitriol spring, effective for skin diseases, gout, and muscle soreness. The hot springs at Thermal Valley (Beitou Hell Valley) and Xinbeitou hotels are primarily Green Sulfur springs.

Iron Sulfur is a neutral carbonate spring with mildly alkaline properties. The water contains iron and is effective for neuralgia, skin conditions, and rheumatism. Longfeng Hot Spring, Fenghuang Hot Spring, and Hushan Village feature Iron Sulfur springs.

Regarding therapeutic effects, acidic springs contain sulfides that produce a strong sulfur odor and have higher corrosiveness than alkaline springs, making them more suitable for medical therapy. However, patients should consult a doctor before bathing for safety.
