Dogo Onsen Main Building

Dogo Onsen is one of Japan's oldest hot springs, with a history spanning over 3,000 years. Legend has it that the spring was discovered when an injured white heron was seen healing its wounded leg in the flowing hot water.

Currently, there are 18 spring sources. The water is an alkaline simple thermal spring at approximately 42 degrees Celsius, effective for neuralgia, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, and fatigue relief.

The Dogo Onsen Main Building is a public bathhouse rebuilt in 1894 (Meiji 27). Despite several expansions over the years, it retains its original appearance and remains popular with many visitors today.

The iconic Shinrokaku drum tower atop the building features striking red glass. In addition to the three-story wooden Kami-no-Yu structure, the building also contains the Yushin-den, the only imperial bathhouse in Japan. These multiple structures are intricately connected. In 1994, it became the first public bathhouse in Japan to be designated as an Important Cultural Property. In 2009, the Michelin Green Guide Japan awarded it the highest rating of three stars, making it popular both domestically and internationally.

Dogo Onsen Main Building offers four bathing options, three of which include rest rooms, yukata rental, and tea service, allowing you to experience the unique charm found only here.
